What’s New?!

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

So, as you can probably tell from the sparseness of recent updates, things have been pretty busy recently! I’ve been designing a lot, and now you can see for yourself! I’ve done some big updates to the website, adding a project to each category (except the photography section, but don’t worry, that will be coming soon, too!) So go check it out! Here’s a small selection:

Itunes Releases!

Saturday, February 13th, 2010
I’m really excited to say that a few of the bands that I’ve worked with have recently released their albums on Itunes!
I created this artwork for Ben Freeman’s Hope and Faith Collide:

And this album, Live. Loud. by the Jordan Howerton Band:

So check it out! The music sounds amazing and hopefully you’ll agree that the artwork reflects the albums themselves!

What A Week!!

Monday, November 23rd, 2009
So, I’ve been keeping busy and last week was a productive one! I finished the Heavenly Sounds album that I blogged about a while back and it will be released just in time for Christmas! The album took about a year to record and features worship music from around the world. All of the profit from the album sales will be given back to the ministries heard on the album. Here’s the cover:

Also, I recently finished the cover art for local musician Ben Freeman! I am really proud of how it turned out and excited for the album release (of course)! While I won’t release the cover art yet, I will give you a little behind the scenes taste of part of my process and show an alternate version of the cover.. When I talk with musicians about designing their album, sometimes they have an idea of what they want the final product to look like and sometimes they don’t. Either way is fine! My job as a designer is to interpret the themes of the album into something visual that corresponds with the music. So usually when the musician is pretty open to whatever I can come up with, I’ll design several different cover concepts and present those.. in this case, this proposed cover wasn’t chosen, but I think it’s interesting enough to release here! So here you have it: (and if you like this one, just wait until you see the cover that did get chosen!)

And check out the updated photography section of the website with promotional pictures of Joseph Reynolds, a local musician and friend.

Also, stay tuned for even updates on the Jordan Howerton Band, a group of guys out of Joplin who came to me for pictures, album design, and maybe even an ad in Relevant magazine…

Behind The Scenes: ‘Heavenly Sound’ Album Design

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
I recently started designing an album cover (one of my favorite types of projects) for this really cool venture done by Global Journey. The album has been about a year in the making and features worship music from around the world in locations such as Nicaragua, Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda and the Philippine Islands. Most of the album was recorded with an ordinary, no frills recording device; some of the tracks are acapella, others have simple drum and guitar backings, but in all of them you can hear people coming together to authentically worship the King. The album will feature something like 14 tracks and all of the proceeds will be given back to the ministry of Global Journey to reach “the ends of the earth”. Here’s a sneak peek of what I’ve been working on for the album:
