Marked OKC

Saturday, March 20th, 2010
I recently designed some postcards and posters promoting Marked, an incredible upcoming Spero Project event in OKC. As you can see, the event features a lot of very cool and worthwhile happenings. Art show, social justice classes, Waterdeep concert, and more! It is definitely worth checking out! Also, I was honored to discover that flickrdesign.com came across the poster and it is now featured on their website!

Spero Project Painting

painting1

Happy Friday everyone! Tonight I got the chance to create a couple of “improv paintings” for an awesome emerging organization based in OKC called The Spero Project during a conference that they held downtown. The Spero Project focuses on uniting church and non-profit resources and “encouraging individuals and local churches to meet the needs of a global community in innovative, effective, and exciting ways.”

My goal for the night was to paint an interpretive, visual symbol of the themes discussed around me during this session of the conference. Usually the way that I do this is (first and foremost) I listen to the discussion taking place. I’ll jot down phrases and keywords that resonate with me, and from there, develop the imagery to fit the theme (which is also how I work when I’m designing)! Some themes that I wrote down tonight? ‘Christ the vine’, ‘Connecting the body of Christ’, ‘it’s not formulaic’, ‘it looks different from place to place’, ‘it’s rooted’, ‘it’s fruit-bearing’. And the result?

I incorporated the themes in the use of color and movement- representing the far-reaching, free-flowing love of Christ and the call to be rooted and reaching across denominations and boundaries.

Painting is something that I really enjoy, and it’s something that I’ve gotten into more recently… more on that in future posts ;)

Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow!
